Jews are going to hell

The Sydney Morning Herald has posted an article about a Baptist Pastor who informed Jewish leaders they were going to hell and would face a fate worse than the holocaust. He goes on to clarify his position based on Biblical passages:
“The Bible says that all have sinned and all are worthy of hell. That includes everyone, until we receive Jesus as our saviour”
While is approach may seem brutally abrupt, know one can honestly disagree with the core tenants of his beliefs. Jesus himself said in John 14:6
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Decent people may feel uncomfortable with this line of reasoning, and so they should. The doctrine of eternal salvation which can only be obtained by accepting the dogma of a particular religion is dangerous, divisive, and an open attacks on others faith.
Shifting another persons beliefs in any other aspect of our experience requires evidence supporting your case and demonstrating logical arguments to your conclusion. Since no religion can really lay claim to the ultimate truth (although all do), there can never be resolution on these matter.
Religion has managed to remain immune from criticism and ridicule for far too long. It is time to expose these ideas for what they truly are - baseless, worthless, wishful thinking stemming from the dark recesses of our ignorance for millennia.

Struggling to choose the top religion? Can’t decide between Bible-thumping evangelism or benign, gentle Buddhism? Make the process fun and easy with God Trumps, our cut-out-and-keep metaphysical card game for all the family.

From Unreasonable Faith:
It (the Bible) can be used to support slavery (Paul says “slaves, obey your masters with fear and trembling … as you would Christ”) and human dignity (Jesus says “love your neighbor as yourself”); misogynism (Paul says “women are not permitted to speak [in church], but should be in submission,”) and equality (Paul says “there is no male or female … you are all one”); in obeying government (Paul says “let every person be subject to the governing authorities”) and disobeying government (The apostles refused to obey the Roman authorities saying they “must obey God rather than man”)

I just had to repost this section from a well written article on Proposition 8.
In Genesis 19, we hear the story of two angels who, in the form of human men, were sent by God to the home of Lot, a Sodomite. Lot invited the angels to stay the night, but before they went to sleep, the men of the city of Sodom gathered around the house and yelled, “We know you’ve got some juicy men in there, Lot!Bring them out here, because we want to rape them!” Lot, being the righteous and holy man that he was, told the men, “Please do not rape my guests. Here, I have two virgin daughters which you are welcome to. I’ll bring them out so you can rape them any way you please, but these men are off limits.” Apparently, this wasn’t good enough for the evil gay men, and they tried to break down the door. But just in the nick of time, the angels struck all the men blind. The next morning, the angels told Lot that God was going to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and that he needed to take his family, escape to a mountain, and never look back.Lot replied, “I don’t want to go live in a mountain. There’s a city nearby, Zoar, and since it’s very small, maybe God could pretty please not destroy this particular city?” The Lord okayed it, and Lot took his family and left. God then rained fire and brimstone on all the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah because, as we all know, every single one of them was evil, every man, woman, baby, fetus, puppy and kitten. Lot’s wife got a bit curious and looked back, so God turned her into a pillar of salt. (Apparently, the “don’t look back” rule was not quite as negotiable as the “head to the mountain” rule.) So, Lot and his daughters arrived in Zoar, but apparently it wasn’t as nice as Lot hoped it would be, so Lot took his daughters up to a mountain (that’s right, a mountain) to live in a cave. One night, the daughters, the very same daughters who were earlier offered up as rape sacrifices by their own father, decided to get their father drunk and rape him. Each of them bore a son, and they lived happily ever after.6
Ah, traditional family values. Don’t they just warm your heart?

I just came across this article (excuse the pun) and found it hilarious. There is so much bad science and stroking of the Lord here it make you both squirm and giggle. Paragraphs like this one raise many questions:
As you move closer to manhood, this little factory will sometimes produce an oversupply of this substance. The Lord has provided a way for that to be released. It will happen without any help or without any resistance from you. Perhaps, one night you will have a dream. In the course of it the release valve that controls the factory will open and release all that is excess.
Why did God create your “little factory” with the capacity to produce an over supply? Why did God design us to make a mess of the bed when the “release valve” lets go?

I am proud to announce the Godless people now have a place to talk - the Godless Discussion Forums.
I am still ironing out the bugs in the theme, so let me know if you have problems viewing the forums. Also, does anyone know if it is possible to integrate the users in the Wordpress database with that of PHPBB?

“I know that very early on [my father] was under the influence of those drugs,” Nate said. Pastor Phelps was attending law school and would take amphetamines to stay awake and barbiturates to come down. “It spiralled out of control [and he] was prone toward violence….He just wasn’t tolerant toward the presence of all of us kids running around—and the accompanying noise….He would beat the kids with his fists and kick them and knee them in the stomach.
This is an enlightening interview with the son on Fred Phelps, the crazy pastor from the Westboro Baptist Church. Just see what a self confessed “man of God” is capable of.

Well, at least they got one things right - it’s all made up.
Stoned to death for being raped
MSNBC has posted a story of a 13 year old girl who was stoned to death for adultery. While this act is completely barbaric in itself, the entire scenario reaches new heights of absurdity and depths of human depravity when we consider the nature of the adultery - she was raped by three men.
The horror of the situation was underlined when over 1,000 blood thirsty people packed a local stadium to witness the girls horrendous death.
In a country where 1 in 4 children die before they reach their 5th birthday you might have thought wise and compassionate Allah might wish to prevent the spread of death, ignorance, and superstition.
I feel sick.

What happens when a group dedicated to the overthrow of modern science writes a science textbook? Ars reviews Explore Evolution, a textbook written by members of the pro-Intelligent Design Discovery Institute, which is generally convinced there’s not much about evolution worth exploring.
