Personalised Universe?
This is our universe.
Our best estimates put it at some 78 billion light years across.
Within this vast space there are 100s of billions galaxies, each with billions of stars.
Many of these stars have planets orbiting them.
Out of all these stars, we know of at least 1 that has 9 such planets.
The third planet from this star is the one we call home - Earth.
Much of the Earth is molten rock of up to 7,000 degrees in temperature, but it cools near the surface forming a solid crust.
The crust forms large plates which collide with each other, in turn causing volcanos and earthquakes.
70.8% of the planet’s surface is covered by water, so we can’t live there.
Occasionally the water is forced onto the land area by seismic events or storms, devastating coastal areas.
The land area comprises 29.2% of the surface, but not all of it is inhabitable.
Some areas are too cold and icy winds blow across the frozen landscape.
Some areas too hot and the plants on which we depend struggle to survive.
Some are too high and the air is too thin to hold the oxygen we need to breath.
Some are arid and the soil infertile, making it difficult to eek out a living.
Some are to rugged or treacherous, making movement difficult.
Some are covered in swamps or thick forests.
Out of all this space, we can only survive in the smallest of fractions.
Choosing some random place in the universe to visit would almost certainly mean instant death.
If we confine ourselves to a sphere no bigger than the Earth our chances of survival are still remote.
If we further confine ourselves to the Earth’s surface we are likely to survive - at least for a short while.
It seems the universe was not built for us.
In fact, If it were conscious you might think it wanted to kill us.
Does it seem like the work of an designer to you?
Does this seem like the work of something intelligent?
Is this universe really designed for us, or are we designed for a small fraction of it?
